By MIKE FITZPATRICK AP Baseball Writer NEW YORK (AP) — New York Mets general manager Jared Porter was fired Tuesday after sending graphic, uninvited text messages and images to a female reporter in 2016 when he was working for the Chicago Cubs in their front office. Mets owner Steve Cohen said Porter was fired Tuesday morning. “We have terminated Jared Porter this morning,” Cohen wrote on Twitter. “In my initial press conference I spoke about the importance of integrity and I meant it. There should be zero tolerance for this type of behavior.” The accusations against Porter were reported by […]Read more...
By DENNIS PASSA AP Sports Writer Two players are among the three latest COVID-19 cases that have emerged from testing conducted on passengers who arrived on charter flights bringing people to Melbourne for the Australian Open. Organizers say they will with […]Read more...

At times in the past, she’s spent the day playing or preparing for matches in the later stages of the tournament. This year, with the season-opening Grand Slam event not starting until Feb. 8 because of travel restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic, she had to settle […]Read more...
By DAVE SKRETTA AP Basketball Writer Gonzaga and Baylor maintained their grip on the top two spots in The Associated Press men’s basketball poll Monday. If third-ranked Villanova ever plays a game, perhaps it will make a run a them. The Bulldogs again racked up all but the two first-place votes that went to the Bears, while the Wildcats remained firmly behind the preseason top two despite not playing a game since Dec. 23. They had a pair of COVID-19 pauses broken up by a single day, including one involving coach Jay Wright, effectively sidelining them for a month. “Everyone […]Read more...
