With fewer professional celebrations on July 4, 2020, many Americans are bound to shoot off fireworks in backyards and at block parties. And they already are: Sales have been booming. When the Black News Channel was launched earlier this year on February 10th, no one could have known how important this year would be for social change.

This fourth of July, we are proud to be part of the national media landscape that is making sure our voices are heard. We are especially thankful for our service men and women, and all of the health care workers who are working tirelessly to care for those affected by Covid-19 and other illnesses.

Independence Day 2020 is like no other before, with racial justice protests around the nation giving it new meaning about what it means to be an American. Frederick Douglass, a former slave turned abolitionist, delivered a remarkable Fourth of July speech in 1852. All these years later, equality is still being fought for, but the year 2020 is bringing about changes much quicker than we have seen in recent years.

Amid a pandemic and economic uncertainty, Black voices are being heard. America is creating a new future, and we are proud to be a part of that. Have a safe and happy Fourth of July.
