Black News Channel launches on ROKU

News

Tallahassee, Florida—March 9, 2020–Black News Channel (BNC), the nation’s only African American news network, announced today that it has launched on Roku. Roku—the company that pioneered streaming to the TV—operates the number one TV streaming platform in the United States as measured by total hours streamed. On the heels of a successful launch on Comcast Xfinity and Charter Spectrum TV, BNC programming is also now available to Roku’s 37 million active users.

BNC’s launch on Roku is just the beginning of the network’s forward-thinking digital distribution strategy to offer its programming on a wide variety of OTT (over-the-top) platforms. BNC viewers should continue to visit blacknewschannel.com for information and announcements about additional launches and places to watch the network’s programming.

“Partnering with Roku, the nation’s number one TV streaming platform, is a big win for BNC,” says BNC co-founder and CEO Bob Brillante. “This partnership will allow viewers to find us however, wherever, and whenever they want to watch our news.”

As well as adding Roku to its list of distribution partners, BNC recently unveiled its newly redesigned website, blacknewschannel.com, that is now news and video centric. Even though the network’s website is live, it is still growing to include more news categories, community partnership pages, and fun interactive environments for visitors. Continued growth of the company’s website will reflect a direct response to visitor comments and suggestions.

“Our goal is to build a truly enjoyable news café environment for digital viewers,” says BNC Director of Engineering, Operations & IT Kenny Elcock. “We want to design more than just a website. We want to create a user experience, and we want it to grow as our audience grows.”

BNC is also currently developing an app for mobile devices. Once BNC’s app is ready for distribution, interested users will be able to download the app from the company’s website, blacknewschannel.com, the Apple Store, and the Google Play store.
